What are the strains to try before you die? We already discussed the golden oldies among cannabis strains and there’s a good chance you have explored their effects. Because of their popularity they are widely available. However, the real cannabis connoisseur is always curious to discover something new. We selected some extraordinary strains and their remarkable stories for you.
Some of these strains have uncommon qualities, others are truly beautiful or very rare. If there is some bucket list you are compiling, why not put some of the following strains up there? We promise you it will be an experience you don’t want to miss.
These are the strains to try before you die:
- Malawi Gold
Malawi Gold is a pure Sativa, originating from the Salima region in Malawi. This strain is very rare and hard to get. The golden buds mainly contain THC (16%), they smell like citrus and their taste resembles a combination of flowers, earth and wood. This strain has energising effects and will definitely enhance your mood. The plant grows very tall and needs a lot of (tropical) sunlight.
- Rainbow Kush
With its many colours, Rainbow Kush is a beauty for the eyes. It also is a potent strain with strong euphoric effects. This half Sativa/half Indica hybrid smells like pine trees and tastes like pineapple. Rainbow Kush provides a deep body high and is used medically for anxiety, chronic pain, stress, depression, fatigue, nausea, and muscle spasms.
- Doug’s Varin
Doug’s Varin is a unique and somewhat mysterious strain from California. The breeder is anonymous and did not share any information about the origins of this strain. The most striking quality of Doug’s Varin is that it supresses the appetite instead of stimulating it – as most strains do. Likely that’s related to the high concentration of the cannabinoid THCV: around 15%. Normally THCV-levels don’t exceed the 2%.
Doug’s Varin is a pure Sativa with a sweet pine and citrus aroma. The high is energising, emotionally uplifting and focused, which makes it a good choice for mental activities. In contrast with other sativa strains you won´t be being distracted by the munchies. Doug’s Varin also has medical potential for people struggling with overweight.
- Purple Urkle
Another visual treat is Purple Urkle. It really is purple – with orange hairs. And it tastes the way it looks: like a berry. The smell is strong and fruity. Purple Urkle is a typical Indica. Its strong sleep-inducing qualities make it the perfect strain for insomniacs.
- Highland Oaxaca Gold
This strain was a golden oldie in the 70s, but much harder to get nowadays. Originating from the same region in Mexico as many psychedelic plants, – e.g. magic mushrooms, Salvia divinorum and Morning glory – Highland Oaxaca Gold fitted nicely within the psychedelic subculture of the 70s. This pure sativa strain has psychedelic properties itself: it may produce visual distortions and colour perception is enhanced. The high will come in waves that may continue for hours. The aroma of Highland Oaxaca Gold is sweet and spicy.
Parvati is a rare strain that grows on high mountain slopes in the Northern Indian region Parvati. The strain is a pure Indica with high CBD levels. This makes it very suitable for medical use. The plant produces an abundance of oily resin and is mainly used to create a soft, black hashish.
